Overview

Pecel Merapi Gading Serpong brings a fresh perspective to Indonesian cuisine, rooted in its origins from Pontianak, West Borneo. This restaurant located at Aniva Junction, Gading Serpong, offers a blend of traditional flavors with a local twist, making it a fascinating spot for those curious about regional variations of classic dishes.

The restaurant’s highlight is undoubtedly the Pecel Khas Merapi. Unlike the typical Javanese pecel, this version carries a subtle hint of shrimp paste, enriching the peanut sauce with an umami depth that sets it apart. The use of fresh, vibrant vegetables, including banana heart, gives the dish a refreshing crispness that complements the robust sauce well. For those looking for something lighter, the Selada Khas Merapi combines lettuce, cucumber, tofu, and dried shrimp, resulting in a unique salad experience that is both crunchy and flavorful.

Another standout is their Sate Kuah Khas Merapi. Serving sate in a soup rather than grilled skewers offers a novel way to enjoy tender, juicy meat infused with spices gently blended into a rich, nutty broth. This unexpected take on sate invites diners to savor the familiar through a new lens.

Other dishes like Lontong Sayur, Nasi Tim, and Ayam Goreng Kalasan provide comforting staples with thoughtfully prepared textures and tastes. Although some reviews cite the ayam kalasan as slightly overcooked, its flavor remains satisfying. The Choipan Bengkuang appetizer delights with its juicy jicama filling wrapped in delicate rice and tapioca flour skins, paired with crispy fried garlic and sambal that awakens the palate.

The dessert menu embraces regional specialties such as Pontianak-style kue and camilan, including soft milk tarts and smokey pengkang, which make a perfect ending or accompaniment to their refreshing hot or iced Teh Tawar.

Ambiance-wise, Pecel Merapi Gading Serpong impresses with a spacious, clean, and inviting interior that comfortably accommodates around 100 guests. This makes it an excellent venue for family gatherings, casual meetups, or solo food adventures. The attentive and quick service enhances the dining experience, ensuring that each dish arrives promptly to the table.

While some patrons with a Javanese palate may find the flavors a bit unfamiliar, this restaurant serves as a culinary bridge to West Borneo’s heritage. The moderately priced menu, combined with generous portions and a warm atmosphere, makes Pecel Merapi worth exploring for anyone eager to discover authentic Indonesian flavors beyond the ordinary.

Whether you seek a new take on traditional pecel, crave the comforting nuances of sate kuah, or want to indulge in Pontianak's sweet treats, Pecel Merapi Gading Serpong offers a rich and authentic taste journey. It's a place where heritage meets innovation, perfect for adventurous food lovers and those appreciating Indonesian regional dishes presented with care and creativity.

Soft Opening of a branch from well-known restaurant originated from Pontianak, West Borneo, Pecel Merapi, now available in Gading Serpong. The Grand Opening will be this Saturday, 14th September 2024. As from the name, Pecel is the hilite from the menu. Unlike the usual mixed vegetables with peanut sauce, you will taste a bit of shrimp paste which makes it a unique dish. My fave is of course the Selada, a dish you cannot find elsewhere. The combination of lettuce, cucumber, tofu mixed with grained dried shrimps, peanuts and other ingredients which you can observe from the picture - is a dish that will get you crave for it. Some other choices like the Sate Kuah (this is also my fave!!), Choi Pan, Kolak - yummy yummy should try! As for the ‘chips’ should be the Stick Talas (Taro Stick) to bring home as you watch your fave movies! The prices are moderate, affordable and good bargain for the taste. And one more, the ambience and its capacity to cater more and around 100 pax is a plus, spacious and comfortable place to hang out and enjoy your day. Try and tell me how you like this.

Pecel Merapi Gading Serpong - 3.9⭐ The food was from Pontianak in Borneo island so taste wise its a bit different with what I usually have. Ordered sup iga, pecel khas merapi, ayam kalasan, sate kuah. The rib soup / sup iga the meat was too little but the broth was clear and spiced up with different kind of spices (i tasted clove & star anise). Taste just okay. The sate was good and tender but the overall peanut paste taste just okay too. Ayam kalasan, fried a bit too long. So it's dried and a bit hard. Tastewise was good but the sambal and all the other side taste just okay. Pecel khas merapi, this one dish doesn't really suits my Java tongue (it might be a bit subjective) but for you guys Pontianak people might find it delicious. The vegetable was fresh and it still taste okay. The service was good and fast. Kudos for the service team. The interior and atmosphere was great! The restaurant looks beautiful. Price wise, I think its cheap considering the restaurant and the surrounding restaurant. I dont think I'll revisit this one.

This the first time i tried pecel that came from pontianak? Well its similliar to javanese pecel but they add the banana heart as one of the ingridients. Interesting. And i also attracted to their satay but they serve it with a soup. A different experience to enjoy satay but i love it. The meat is tender and the peanut sauce dissolve into the soup and you slurp it just like how you enjoyed a soup. Love it. Will be back for more.

Nothing special for me. They said saus pecel with ebi but I cant taste it. Pempek is not my favorite very different from the pic. Beef Satay okay, but because the put a lot of gravy and it makes the taste untasty. Bought the bolu and it’s very dry. But The atmosphere was extraordinary. Comfy and Well design. Shout out for their interior designer. Will come back for others menu.

The food is nice. But if you come at lunch/ dinner time, it could become very busy, prepare to wait. I came at lunch time, and I had to wait for more than half hour before the my order arrived. The waitress were responsive, it seems the cooking process took a very long time for some reason
